When you fill in your talent profile on Laura's recruitment platform, you're not limited to waiting only for the positions you apply to yourself. Employers can find you directly through your profile via AI, even when you haven't submitted an application for an open position.
This article walks through how the AI retrieves information from your profile, and how you can make sure your profile stands out as well as possible.
What happens when an employer searches for talent?
When an employer enters a job title and other search-related information into the system, the system tries to identify the criteria related to the position using the job descriptions stored in the system. The AI then goes through the available talent profiles and compares them against the position's requirements.
Finally, the employer is presented with a ranked list of candidates whose profiles best match the job description. The whole process happens quickly, so the employer gets a fast overview of the available talent.
It's important to remember that the AI does not make recruitment decisions. It generates a suggestion for the employer and ranks candidates by match, but the actual decision about contact and selection is always made by a human.
What information does the AI look at in your profile?
The AI evaluates your profile from several angles. The more carefully you fill in this information, the better the match to positions can be calculated.
Professional Profile. The system looks at the job title and description you've provided.
Skills. The skills listed in your profile.
Language Skills. The language skills listed in your profile.
Work Experience. This includes job title, employer name, start and end dates of employment, seniority level, and key responsibilities and achievements. The description of responsibilities and achievements is especially important, as it tells far more than just a job title.
Education. The system looks at your degree, level of education, major or specialization, and information related to your degree completion status.
Licenses and Cards. Some jobs may have requirements related to licenses and qualifications (e.g. hygiene passport, forklift license, ADR driving permit, etc.). This section lets you easily list which licenses and cards you hold.
CV. The resume you upload complements the other information and gives the AI a fuller picture of your background.
What information does the AI not use?
It's equally important to know what the AI disregards. Search results are based only on information relevant to the job, not your personal characteristics. For example, the AI does not use the following information in its search:
Name. Your talent profile is not deprioritized based on how your name sounds or what it might suggest.
Gender. Gender does not affect how your profile ranks in search results.
Age. The AI does not draw conclusions about your age — for example, based on your graduation year or length of career — in order to affect your ranking.
Other personal characteristics that are not related to the job search or to performing the role.
This means that search results are based on what you know and what you've done. The goal is to make recruitment as fair as possible and to ensure you have an equal chance of being found based on your competence.
The employer will of course see your name and other information in your profile once they review your profile in more detail. However, this information does not affect the search and ranking itself.
How does the AI perform the search?
The search happens in two stages. In the first stage, the system narrows down the pool based on whether the talent profile's use is permitted for employers. Only talent profiles that are available to employers are included in the AI search. In the second stage, the actual comparison is made against the criteria mentioned above. This makes the search both fast and accurate, which benefits both employers and job seekers.
The AI can also handle partial matches. This means you don't need to fulfill every requirement perfectly to be recommended for an open position. The system can also surface candidates who meet the requirements only partially, and inform the employer where the profile differs from the job description.
Privacy and Transparency
Your profile is visible to employers only if you have created a talent profile yourself at Laura.fi or after submitting a job application. You can edit your profile settings by logging in from the Laura.fi homepage via the Log in link. If you wish, you can also disable the use of your profile, in which case your profile will not be recommended to employers in talent searches.
The employer also sees which criteria affected your profile's ranking in the search results. When your profile appears in the search results, the employer sees the justification for it. If your profile does not appear in the search results, the reason is that the employer's search did not match the information in your talent profile.
The employer can review your profile in more detail and, if they wish, invite you to take part in the recruitment process. You'll receive an email about the invitation, and you can accept or decline it by logging into your talent profile.
You have the right to review and correct the information in your profile at any time, as well as to restrict or block the use of your profile in employer searches. If you have questions about how the AI works or suspect an error, you can contact our customer service. We operate our use of AI in accordance with the EU AI Act and data protection legislation.
Tips for Fine-Tuning Your Profile
Since the AI relies on the information you provide, the quality of your profile matters a great deal. Keep your work experience descriptions concrete, and spell out your responsibilities and achievements instead of just listing job titles. Make sure your education details, dates, and seniority levels are up to date, and list your skills, language skills, and any licenses carefully. Also update your job preferences to reflect your current situation.
A well-filled-out profile is, in practice, a continuously active application that searches for jobs on your behalf. It serves you even when you're not actively job hunting yourself.
